The Milk Waits For Tomorrow

Well, I managed to get to the bank, the library, the art store, and the airport post office.  But I completely forgot to pick up the milk.

So sorry, my dear.

Gratitude and Thanks

thank.ful (thangk-fuhl), adj.   feeling or expressing gratitude or appreciation

You know when life comes at you and practically knocks you off your feet?  Oh, it was one of those weeks for me that brought me to my knees!  Uggh!

In an effort to pull myself together, I forced myself to once again physically write out all the things I am thankful for, that silly little exercise that I work hard to cultivate as a habit.  It took a couple of hours, but I needed that time to still my soul and focus on all of the blessings in my life.  While I couldn't make the problems themselves go away, they lost their all-consuming power.

This is definitely not an easy thing to do when life is out of sorts, but I'm convinced more than ever that it is worth the effort!  We can train ourselves to take on the emotion of gratitude.  With enough practice it can become a mood, and then a trait.  It's a remarkable idea.

Someday we will see the whole picture and understand the whys in life.

Goodbyes

He left for Brooklyn ready to take on the world.  Even the view from the train tracks was exhilarating.

She went back to college and friends.

Despite happiness for them as they are following their dreams, this momma has been crying for many days.  Saying goodbye to kids is so, so hard.

The Big Move

This weekend our son comes home before moving to New York!  It will be so good to see him and we are excited for what's ahead...but the mom in me is already feeling the separation.

Add in a very special daughter coming home from school and an early Thanksgiving/Christmas celebration...

Lots of memories in the making this weekend!  Hope you all have your own measure of memories as well.  Happy Friday!

Horse Hugs

I admit that horses scare me to death.  But as long as there's a fence between us and I sense some gentleness, I can't resist.

Romance on the Cove

3 of 859,421,377 little ways to tell you're still in love after all these years...

...adventuring together to find a secluded cove at sunset.
...being offered second position down the dike pathway to avoid spider webs in the face.
...listening again with a smile to exclamations about ducks, water fowl, and hunting opportunities.

I love you, Sir Bradley!

The Coast

It was an absolutely wonderful, long weekend at the coast!  We realized how tired we were and took advantage of the quietness and beauty of nature to slow down and relax.

Miss Elsie was a close companion.  Oh, there is so much excitement at the beach for a dog.  Sand! Rolling water!  Sticks!  Seashells!  Foam! Jellyfish! Feathers! Unlimited miles of running!  We felt like parents of a two-year-old discovering life.  Ha!

Cape Meares Getaway

Woohoo!! We're headed to the Oregon Coast for the weekend!  Sir Bradley has Monday off so it will be three nights and four entire days of rest, fun, and sand.  It will be cold and rainy the entire time, but up here in the Northwest we are hardy folk who have learned not to let weather hamper our adventures.  =)

The homemade yogurt is ready.  The cranberry orange pecan bread is wrapped.  Fresh eggs - check. New batch of granola - check. A cooler of fresh fruits and vegetables is still to be packed.  I can't say that I've ever packed quite this healthy before.

That being said, hunting down a good bakery and enjoying a special treat is still on the agenda!!!  It will be good for the soul!!

Drying Out In Time To Get Wet

With the last batch of sunshine, everything dried out.  The leaves turned crunchy and the ornamental grasses started to shine, the details of which were all quite captivating!

Dancing Kids

There is only one center in the Northwest for medically fragile children, and the staff and volunteers there work hard to provide treatment, care, and love.  In front of the building is wonderful little statue of children dancing, something that, ironically, none of the center's children will ever be able to do.  But the carefree nature of the statue somehow brings hope of other joys these kids can experience.

Better Than Candy

So here's a new snack to consider, one that the good doctor just might approve of!

Take one luscious candy bar.  Trader Joe's Swiss bar is absolutely fabulous.

And then enjoy tearing open the delicate foil.

Ah, flowers!  Swiss flowers, of course!  (I made that up.)

So take a single square, add a dollop of peanut butter (or sunflower butter, in this case), and pile on as many raisins as will fit.

Dark chocolate, nuts, and dried fruit.  All good, right???!  Sorry that the last picture isn't more romantic, because it deserves to be.  This treat is to die for.

Pink Glove Dance

So as you head into the weekend, here are two quick video links to enjoy.

The original video was created by Providence (woohoo!) back in 2009 for breast cancer awareness... and it went viral.  Click on the following link and then on "The Original Pink Glove Dance". Yup, there are some pretty cute nurses in there, and that custodian can dance! Employees were untrained, unpolished, and unabashed as they danced through the hospital, and patients loved it.
Pink Glove Dance

And now greater things are coming from it.  Please take a moment to see this one...and remember to vote!  Prizes are awarded as donations to breast cancer charities.

Keep dancing, my friends.   Happy Friday!
