Mud and Rain

It just keeps raining and the mud field in back is growing by the day!  It's a good workout, though, straining every core muscle just to stay upright and not slip and slide.  Who needs a gym?  =)

Calla Lilies

What is it about calla lilies that are so peaceful and calming?

Homemade Pizza

It was a rare evening when I was inspired to make dinner.  Those who know me well will be nodding wholeheartedly at the operative word, "rare".  Cooking is NOT my thing!  But this night was worth the effort.  Oh, it was fabulous!

1. Pick a crust, any crust.  I tried a new rye and whole wheat concoction, which was interesting.
2. Spread with pesto sauce.
3. Throw on a combination of chopped zucchini, goat cheese, sun dried tomatoes, artichokes, and          caramelized onions.  A sprinkling of mozzarella cheese on the top holds everything together.
4. Bake @450° on a baking stone for about 18 minutes.

The "after"picture would have been a dream shot, but the lighting was off and we were starved.  No time for the finer points of photography.  You'll have to trust me that it looked, smelled and tasted delicious!!

And Off They Drove

The weekend was a blur!  One child home...cookies...conversations over an art project being finished up...two others arrived...breakfast out with family...a visit with the folks...packing up food for a road trip......and then - BLINK.  All gone! They left on separate road trips!

Oh, it was hard to say goodbye so quickly!  And without frequent texts, the Mother Questions started popping up all over the place:

1.  Do they know road conditions?
2.  Do they know where they're staying?
3.  Are they safe?
4.  Will they have enough money?
5.  Will they stay awake to drive for so many days on end?
6.  Should I have packed more food?
7.  It's been several hours.  Are they safe?
8.  Is the car holding up?  What about the hood problem?
9.  Do they really know how to drive in San Francisco?
10.  How about LA?
11.  Are they really old enough to go alone?????!!!!!!!

Even the beautiful weather and blue skies couldn't distract me for long.

It's been three hours, Dear.  Better call. =)

Where Does Time Go?

Oh, where do the days go????

To work, that's where they go!

I missed celebrating Pi Day, St. Patrick's Day, and the first day of spring. The first day of Lent came and went. The pussy willows are spent, and the flowering cherries are in full bloom.  And when did those gorgeous daffodils pop up??

I'm trying to remind myself that I have worked a bazillion hours to help reduce sickness and suffering, cover for sick calls, and tackle a monster of a personnel issue, and am now keeping another program afloat until we get reinforcements.

There are times in life when we need to put our foot down.  Or at the very least, readjust the details so all of the fun times are not eliminated.  Tonight two of the kids return home from in light of my newly discovered sense of priorities, I look forward to a late night dance party, complete with double chocolate cookies!

Happy Friday,

Beach Weekend

It was a wonderful weekend on the Oregon Coast.  We walked on the beach, ate, and slept...about 15 times over.  =)  Exactly what we needed.

Though perhaps I shouldn't have eaten exactly half of the banana cake. With the layer of chocolate chips on the top.

Big Brother, Little Sister

Love these guys to pieces!  Can't wait till I can fly out and hug them both.  =)

Varied Thrush

I forgot I had taken this picture during the last storm!  Mr. Thrush was quite happy to peck at the frozen suet while I clicked away.

There is promise that these trees will eventually start to bud.  It's still too cold up here in the highlands...

ALS Fundraising Gala

It was an amazing night with almost 700 friends, families, supporters, and providers all gathered in the fight against ALS.  What a treat to see people dressed up, in a different context than the clinic.  I left with a grateful heart - a better person for working with this incredible community of people.

It was a formal affair and the tables were gorgeous.  My eye was drawn to the things that I love...chocolate and shiny things, of course!  And yes, there was glitter on that piece of chocolate loveliness.  =)

The clocks moved ahead and in my mind, spring peaked around the corner and waved at me.  =)  Ah, the daphne!  Our bush survived the winter storms and is so potently fragrant this year that I can't bring it inside.  Go figure.

And happy birthday, Mom!  If I wasn't holed up in the office so much I'd have sent you a whole box of daphne!  But then again, I'm not sure where'd you put it...

1940 Census, Jeffers Gardens

The 1940 U.S. Census was released, and my cousin forwarded a section with our family information. It arrived yesterday in memory of our granddad's birthday.  He was born in 1895, the child of Norwegian immigrants. It was a real surprise to see his name - and those of my father, uncle, grandmother, and a great uncle - in print.  I even remember the lady across the street!  There they all are.

Granddad had a really cool, old house, complete with a laundry chute.  As kids, we would run down to the corner store, buy some cookies, hide them in the rafters of the garage, and then haul them upstairs through the laundry chute with a rope for late night snacks.  We were all sure that he never knew, but now I can just imagine him winking to the rest of the adults in the living room.  He was such a gentle, wonderful man.  =)

Thanks, Katie.  This was a real treat!
