Food in New York

It's official - we're going to New York for Spring Break!

The boy is already working on a food itinerary.

Yes, I will eat standing up.
Yes, I will eat in a place where no one speaks my language.
Yes, I will will eat something where every ingredient is unrecognizable.  But no raw meat.
No, I can't eat hot and spicy dishes.
No, you'll have to go with Dad to some of the sketchier places, even if the food is amazing.

Tonight's text was of a "mind blowingly good" meal.  He hasn't asked me yet about cooked eyeballs and antenna, but I think this dish is on the itinerary anyway.  =)

Tennis and Friendship

It was a real treat to get a text from one of "our" kids.  He was in town for a college tennis match, so we quickly scarfed down some dinner and headed out.

In his younger days, there was an agreement...if he hand-delivered the newspaper to me while I was relaxing on the couch, I would have fresh bread ready for him in the kitchen.  It was a great deal for both of us.

Thousands of meals later, as well as snacks, sleepovers, talks, games, and times of laughter, he turned into a man.  It's truly our privilege to count his as a close friend.

Mom Jeans

Mom jeans are coming back - oh, no!!!  I had heard rumors, but chose to ignore them.  Good grief, it took me more than a decade to get used to low-waisted pants, and I don't want to go back!!! Ackkkkkk! Apparently denim is going through a paradigm shift.  According to Goldman Sachs, high waisted pants are already the norm in Europe, where trends run ahead of the U.S.  The tide is approaching.

A Bit of Color for the Day

I've been sequestered in my cave at work, dealing with difficult issues.

At the same time, home life is flying at a furious pace.

So today as I head out to do it all over again, I'm just really, really grateful I managed to find 2 matching socks!!!!!  =)

Sir Bradley sensed my need for some sweet cheer.  Love that man.

The Baboon

It seems the professor thought it would be a good learning experience to assign a jungle animal project to be completed without assistance or instruction.  Creating a baboon became quite an issue. Hmmm...

So this is the text I received:


Our art teacher wouldn't let us display it in the library with everyone else's animals...so we chose to display it in in the quad for all to see

Ice Storm

It has been a wintery wonderland outside!  The snow hit first, followed by sleet and freezing rain.  We haven't had to go anywhere or do anything, so we've been thoroughly enjoying the storm!

Lencan Memories

We met up with this happy woman in the mountains of Honduras.  All of the Lenca women wore something on their heads, even if it was a towel.  The people lived in dampness, nearly wet in the constant mist which made it impossible for anything to dry.

I miss the people, the smells, the laughter, the colors, the culture...just about everything except that bone-chilling cold.  =)

Tea and Teens

It seems I'm going to be needing more of these lovely, quiet tea moments in my future, but the question will be how.  And when.

After raising two kids and enjoying several others we still claim as our own, we have now officially added 20 more that will be hanging around.  As in 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12-13-14-15-16-17-18-19-20!!!

Our ugly couches will be put to more use.  Our cupboards will swiftly be laid bare. The carpet will undoubtedly need more vacuuming and we will definitely be getting less sleep.  We are very excited... and scared out of our wits.  =)
