Their First Parade

It was their first real parade.  The small boys had never seen one.  The young parents remember one in 2003, before the war in their home country, and it was a military march down the road.

The Rose Festival Parade is always quite the experience, and it was fun to introduce our refugee friends to this strange tradition of ours...bands, music, floats, flowers, firefighters, dancing, bagpipers, sister cities, horses, llamas, flags...

And the shade that we so welcomed?  It wreaked havoc on lighting for good pics, and in combination with all of the excitement and jumping, the good photos are etched well in my mind.  =)
