An Elephant On My Fridge

Yes, we have one of those refrigerators...adorned with pictures, comic strips, and funny little treasures.  Every few months I make a few changes and straighten things up.  There is now a new addition from a 4 year old friend who appreciated the little Easter box of treats. Best elephant ever!

Nepal

Funny how the earthquakes and disasters seem far so away until there's a personal connection.  But suddenly everything became very close as we realized our dear friends' future son-in-law is right there in Kathmandu.  We waited what seemed like forever to hear from them.

He was able to make three very short calls home to let everyone know he is OK.  It has been chaos. So many quakes and aftershocks. No electricity, no water. Sleeping in tents on the streets, even in the rain.

Good news came this morning.  The agency he is with has sent over help and supplies, and they are making the shift from victims to responders.  Amazing.

Our prayers go up for all of the people there.

Dinner's On

With some unusually sunny, warm days, it was time to pull out my solar cooker, made from a car windshield protector.

Best. chicken. ever.

But I did miss not having the kids around to embarrass...because the only place we get full sun all day is facing south. Facing the neighbors.   =)

Camas Lilies

It was an especially difficult week...and an especially great weekend.  It felt like a little gift.

Sunday brought several good friends to our door, and we enjoyed some laughter, some meals, and some time outdoors together.  The evening was capped off with a quick hike to the lily fields, and the sun had just set when we arrived. Such calm, peaceful beauty!

New York

It was a quick trip to see the boy.

Our impression of the city was as before: noisy, grimy, dirty, and scattered with garbage.  But he loves it all and he is thriving.  And so for four days, we loved it with him. Walking and eating our way through the boroughs of Brooklyn, we found much to appreciate.
